Dr. Reed Thomas, Guest Conductor

Reed Thomas博士在2003年開始任教於美國田納西州中部大學,現時擔任指揮教授及管樂總監。他擔任校內之管樂團及管樂室內樂團的指揮;執教於大學之指揮課程及學位後課程之指揮法、管弦樂作品賞析及排練技巧等。他同時指導田納西州中部大學中所有有關管樂之課程。並為一支由印第安納州東北部地區之專業管樂及敲撃樂手組成之Three Rivers Wind Symphony的創團指揮。九七年至九九年間擔任利特爾頓管樂室樂團之指揮。

出生於科羅拉多州的Reed Thomas於猶他州大學取得音樂教育學士及碩士學位,後於明尼蘇達大學取得指揮博士學位。他熱心於促進管樂新音樂的發展,創立田納西州中部大學委約計劃,現時已將十首管樂合奏的新音樂帶到舞台。他所帶領的隊伍曾於田納西州、科羅拉多州、明尼蘇達州及猶他州之音樂教育交流會中演出。此外,他還參加過南韓濟州的管樂節。他經常擔任在美國國內及韓國等地的管樂團、管弦樂團、室內組合作客席指揮及研討班之主講者。在2005,Reed Thomas博士帶領他的田納西州中部大學管樂團到南韓進行他們首次的國際性巡迴音樂會,這次演出非常成功,座無虛席。2007年,該管樂團將會到北京,香港及澳門作巡迴演出。

在任職田納西州中部大學之前,Reed Thomas博士曾任印第安納Indiana-Purdue University Ft. Wayne的器樂研究主任及科羅拉多州Adams State College的樂團主任、明尼蘇達大學管樂團的助理總監、North Star Band的指揮及猶他州兩所公立中學擔任管樂團指揮。

Reed Thomas博士是美國大學管樂指揮協會、國立管樂協會、指揮協會、國立音樂教育聯盟、田納西州中部管樂及管弦樂協會、Pi Kappa Lambda及Kappa Kappa Psi等多個協會之會員。

Dr. Reed Thomas is the Director of Bands and a Full Professor of Music and Conducting at Middle Tennessee State University.  His responsibilities include conducting the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and University Chamber Winds, teaching undergraduate advanced conducting and graduate courses in conducting, wind and orchestral repertoire, and rehearsal techniques, and he guides all aspects of MTSU band program.  He is the founding conductor of the Three Rivers Wind Symphony, a professional group of wind and percussion players from Northeast Indiana and was the Conductor of the Littleton Chamber Winds in Littleton, Colorado from 1997-99. 
A native of Colorado, Dr. Thomas received his Ph.D. in Music with an emphasis in conducting from the University of Minnesota and both his Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Music Education from the University of Utah.  An active supporter of new music for winds, he established the MTSU commissioning project and to date has premiered ten new works for wind ensemble.  His groups have been invited to perform at the Tennessee, Colorado, Minnesota, and Utah Music Educators conventions as well as the Jeju Resonance of Winds Festival, in Jeju S. Korea and he maintains an active schedule as a band, orchestra, and chamber ensemble conductor and clinician throughout the United States, China, and Korea.  In August 2005, Dr. Thomas took the MTSU Wind Ensemble on its first ever International concert tour to South Korea where they performed for sold out audiences and received critical acclaim from conductors, musicians, composers and audience members.  During the summer of 2007, the group will tour Beijing, Hong Kong, and Macau, China.
Prior to his appointment at MTSU, Dr. Thomas held similar positions as the Director of Instrumental Studies at Indiana-Purdue University Ft. Wayne in Indiana and as the Director of Bands at Adams State College in Colorado.  He also has served as the Assistant Director of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band and Conductor of the North Star Band at the University of Minnesota.  Prior to Minnesota, he was Director of Bands for seven years at two public high schools in Utah. 
He is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, the Conductors Guild, Music Educators National Conference, Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
